Bloomberg rates Mordashov as Russia’s wealthiest businessman

MOSCOW, Mar 1 (PRIME) -- Alexei Mordashov, the majority shareholder of Russian steelmaker Severstal, has become Russia’s wealthiest tycoon with fortune rising by U.S. $239 million in January–February to $19.9 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) released on Thursday.

Mordashov topped another tycoon, Vladimir Potanin, president of metals giant Norilsk Nickel, whose wealth grew by $613 million to $19.6 billion. Vladimir Lisin, chairman of the board of directors of steelmaker NLMK, ranked third, with his fortune rising by $924 million to $18.9 billion.

The fortune of Leonid Mikhelson, CEO of independent gas producer Novatek, rose by $948 million to $17.6 billion.

The combined wealth of 27 Russian billionaires grew by $11.4 billion in January–February, according to BBI.

The index is calculated based on capitalization and financial reports of companies owned by businessmen, or on a ratio between capitalization and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) or a ratio between a share price and earning per share.
